atproto-blob A screenshot of an excerpt of a personaldissertation of a look between a Venn Diagramof two almost completely overlapping circlesof Maria Von Trapp & Mary Poppins (Part 1):Julie Andrews, Mary Poppins, & the MariaKutschera A look into three facets of the samething: pure innocence, unwavering sovereignty, and the strength of one person in the midst ofmany forms of oppression Not until this pastweekend had I ever noticed that Julie Andrewshad played both the very real Maria AugustaKutschera as well as the fictional characterof Mary Poppins. Never had I realized howsimilar both characters are or even thesimilarities between the Disney film and TheSound of Music, so much the same yet so verydifferent. To open the play with the phrase:‘the hills are alive with the sound ofmusic’ being belted out, while submergedwithin what some call the sprawling beauty ofthe lord’s splendor, is a layered display offour concentric circles of beauty: Maria’sheart & mind, her physical form, her voice, and the background of landscapes laden withthe myriad of colors realized by the flowersand the green grass of nature and life itself. It was a declaration she couldn’t containwithin herself and she reacts accordingly, becoming apart of that beauty herself &amplifying it exponentially.
